About Blue Butterfly Counselling Services

My Mission

I am dedicated to providing compassionate counselling services to individuals struggling with trauma or bereavement. 


I will provide you with a safe and confidential space where you can begin to discuss and understand the experience or experiences that you have had.


Together we will gently explore the physical and psychological reactions that your trauma may be causing you.

What is trauma?

Trauma is the unprocessed feelings and emotions that impact our physical and psychological health after an emotional event.


This could be from an event such as:

  • a car crash or accident
  • a bereavement 
  • a personal assault such as a rape, sexual assault, mugging, bullying.
  • prolonged or isolated incident of sexual abuse, grooming, exploitation 
  • domestic violence
  • going through a traumatic birth


The above list is not exhaustive but gives an idea of what sorts of experiences can be classed as traumatic.


How one person responds to trauma may be different to how another person may respond.  We are all different and respond in different ways.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP?

Counselling provides practical help and strategies for managing your symptoms such as flashbacks, panic attacks, nightmares, depression and anxiety.  It will empower you to manage these reactions for yourself and move the trauma from a current problem into one that is a memory from the past that you can deal with.


It is very important to know that:

  • Counselling will never rush you.  You will explore the traumatic event(s) in your own time.
  • You will work at a pace and speed that is comfortable for you.
  • Counselling is not a process that will re-traumatise you.
  • You will not be left with feelings or emotions that you do not know how to cope with or manage.
