About Me!
Hello, my name is Debbie, and I am truly honoured that you are considering me as a potential therapist to walk alongside you on your counselling journey.
I am a trauma informed therapist and a grief and bereavement counsellor, specialising in trauma, sexual violence, domestic abuse, narcissistic relationship injury, addiction, and complex emotional harm. I work with adults and teens, offering online and telephone counselling to clients across the UK and internationally.
I want to begin by acknowledging how difficult it can be to take the first steps toward therapy. Reaching out often comes at a time when you are already feeling overwhelmed, vulnerable, or unsure where to turn. I understand this, and I want you to know that you will be met here with care, patience, and respect.
My Approach
My work is grounded in trauma informed, integrative therapy. This means that your safety, choice, and emotional pace are always prioritised. Therapy is not about fixing you or telling you who to be. It is about understanding what you have been through, how it has shaped you, and supporting you to reconnect with your inner strength, self compassion, and sense of meaning.
I am warm, empathic, and deeply nurturing in my approach. My supervisor once described me as “a teacher, a cheerleader, and a safety blanket,” and I hold this with great care. I aim to be a steady, supportive presence as you explore difficult experiences, emotions, and patterns, always in a way that feels contained and respectful.
I will support your inner child as you gently reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been silenced or protected through dissociation. I will help you understand what happened to you and how healing can begin. I will celebrate your growth and walk beside you when emotions feel heavy or overwhelming, helping you process pain with compassion rather than judgement.
My Professional Experience
Alongside my private practice, I work within rape and sexual violence services as a counsellor and support line practitioner. I also work within drug and alcohol rehabilitation and resettlement services, supporting individuals through recovery, transition, and emotional healing. In addition, I have worked within bereavement services in a hospice setting and have facilitated peer support groups for bereavement by suicide through a local charity.
This work continually deepens my understanding of trauma, loss, addiction, identity, and the complex ways emotional pain can shape a person’s life. It is a privilege to walk alongside people during some of their most vulnerable moments.
Lived Experience
I also bring lived experience of complex trauma to my work. I understand from the inside what it is like to carry pain, self doubt, and a deep sense of not being enough. For many years, I lived with an internal belief that I must somehow have been to blame for what had happened to me. Through my own therapeutic journey, I was able to challenge this narrative and begin to see myself with compassion rather than shame.
This personal understanding allows me to meet others not just with professional knowledge, but with genuine empathy. I know that healing is possible, even when it feels distant or unimaginable. It is an honour to now support others in finding their own path toward safety, self trust, and emotional freedom.
Inclusivity and Safety
I offer an inclusive, affirming, and non judgemental space for clients of all backgrounds, including individuals from LGBTQ+ communities. You are welcome here exactly as you are. Therapy is a place where your identity, experiences, and relationships are respected and explored with care, without assumption or expectation.
How I Work
I currently offer online counselling via secure video platforms and telephone counselling. This allows you to access support from a place that feels safe and comfortable for you, wherever you are in the UK or internationally.
If you feel that my approach resonates with what you are looking for in a therapist, I would warmly invite you to reach out and make contact.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
Take gentle care of yourself.
